Jessica with HER Clicks: Hey, Heidi! Thanks for chatting!
Heidi: Hi Jessica! It’s my pleasure! This is exciting! I’ve never been interviewed before!
Jessica with HER Clicks: Tell me a bit about you and your life.
Heidi: Well, I am currently a stay-at-home-homeschooling mom of four — None of which I thought I would ever be. I figured I’d have at least 2 children, m a y b e 3. And I figured I’d be a career woman because all my kiddos would be at school. Funny how your perspective changes as circumstances change. My husband and I are raising our children in the beautiful 4-seasons state of Minnesota. We are outdoorsy, always have a project (or six) going, and we enjoy being together. Now, if we’re just talking about me, I like being active, being creative, gardening, photography, reading aloud to my kiddos, the smell of fresh cut grass, authenticity, & coffee — hot coffee! What I don’t like is dishonesty, pumping gas, & chewing sounds (Let’s just say you wouldn’t find me at a movie theater.) Ohh, and cupcakes! I LOVE cupcakes!!! 🙂
Jessica with HER Clicks: So. You home-school. Any suggestions for the moms who do or are considering doing the same?
Heidi: Oh boy, that’s a weighty question. For those of you who’ve chosen this for your children, High Five! Soldier On Mama! And for those who are considering, I feel like I need to say that it is the hardest, yet most rewarding thing I have ever been a part of. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed, but ‘One day at a time’ has been my moto.
Jessica with HER Clicks: And. You describe yourself as a “Project Girl,” what projects do you spend your time on, what do you enjoy?
Heidi: We recently moved into a new (to us) home. It was built in the early 70’s, and hadn’t been updated since. (Think Dark brown EVERYWHERE). We are currently renovating it ourselves. Last year we finished a complete kitchen remodel, and this year we are tackling a lower level renovation. Like I mean, installing new windows, rooms removed/added, electrical and plumbing reworked, load-bearing walls coming down, fireplace relocating, and drywall for DAYSSS! But we love this stuff! (Well, not so much the electrical & drywall phases, but most everything else). We’re just about done with our last coat of drywall, and then we can start putting things back together. That’s the best part! Ya know, making it all pretty 🙂
Jessica with HER Clicks: This is your first Project 365. Where you take at least one photo a day for an entire year. We are over halfway through the year, how’s that going?
Heidi: I am happy to have made it this far. I have wanted to do this project for a few years now, but the timing never felt right. This year I decided, why not?! I knew it would be a huge undertaking for me, and it is. I am 100% committed to it though. I am learning a lot about my style as a photographer as I hone my skills. I would highly recommend it if you feel the need to improve.
Jessica with HER Clicks: Do you plan to do this project next year?
Heidi: Nope. One year’s enough. It takes a lot of my time.
Jessica with HER Clicks: On your Instagram, I noticed you’ve put in your bio that you are “choosing to see joy in the mundane.” What does that mean to you?
Heidi: I believe ‘joy’ is a choice. I don’t always feel joyous. Actually, most days I wake up grumpy. As a mother of four curious, independent, adventure-seeking, strong-willed children, I considered myself ‘occupied.’ My home is often loud. There is usually a mixture of cheerios, nuts, Legos and train tracks strewn about my floors, and I’ve got a mountain of laundry that only seems to be growing in size. That said, I choose to ‘rejoice’ in it! It’s my life, and I’m learning that it’s all about perspective. I want to remember. I want to capture every mess, every adventure, every little expression, a twinkle, put, and grin – so in later years, when my house is clean, still, and quiet, and the laundry is all caught up, I will be reminded of all those precious details that are so easily forgotten in the difficulty and chaos of motherhood. So often it’s hard and unglamorous, but seeing the joy is possible with the right focus. So, I choose JOY because motherhood is my ministry.
Jessica with HER Clicks: I’d love to know your favorite Bible verse and why.
Heidi: Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of thee but to do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.” This is the verse my parents wrote in the front of my Bible which they gifted me when I learned how to read. It’s a great reminder of how I need to live.
Jessica with HER Clicks: The Summer season is nearly halfway finished. Any great things happened for you this Summer?
Heidi: Umm, maybe not “great” in the way most people would classify the word, but I have SO enjoyed our slower days, watching my kiddos play outside together, working with me in the garden, evenings at the lake, going for bike rides, playing in the pool, and summer time grillin’. We also plan to finish the lower level reno. THAT will be great! 😉
Jessica with HER Clicks: I’m glad we’ve had the chance to chat. Thanks for chatting with me!!
Heidi: I’m am so happy to chat with you! Thank you so much for this opportunity.
